The Bereavement Ministry at St. Charles Borromeo plays a vital role in supporting families through the loss of a loved one. Everyone experiences grief, and we are here to offer comfort, guidance, and prayer during these difficult times.
When a loved one passes away, a call to the parish office will begin the process of planning their Funeral Mass. Families will meet with Karen Crowe from the Bereavement Ministry, who will walk them through each step of planning. This includes selecting readings, songs, and gathering necessary family information to help personalize the Mass.
If possible, family members are encouraged to participate in the Funeral Mass by proclaiming the readings or bringing up the gifts. The Bereavement Ministry team will be present throughout the Mass to coordinate with the priest, family, musicians, and funeral home, ensuring that everything comes together smoothly and reverently.
Our Bereavement Ministry members are dedicated prayer warriors, regularly praying for the intentions of our parish. Prayer requests are shared via Flocknote, allowing our group to pray collectively. When possible, we follow up with those in need of continued prayers.
We also send sympathy and "Thinking of You" cards to the families we serve, reminding them that they are not alone or forgotten.
Each year on All Souls Day, November 2nd, we send letters to the families we have served over the past year, inviting them to a special Mass of Remembrance. During this solemn Mass, the names of the deceased are read aloud, and family members have the opportunity to light a candle in their memory. This beautiful and meaningful tradition brings comfort and a sense of community to all who attend. All Souls Day 2024
The Bereavement Ministry also participates in our annual St. Charles Borromeo Feast Day celebration. We provide a generous raffle gift and prepare delicious popcorn to share with parishioners as we spread awareness of our ministry.
We have all experienced loss, and our ministry members serve with empathy and compassion for those who are grieving. If you are interested in joining the Bereavement Ministry, please contact the parish office, and they will connect you with Karen Crowe. Thank you for considering this heartfelt service.
