“Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh.” - Genesis 2:24
The Sacrament of Marriage is a sacred covenant through which a man and woman are united in lifelong partnership, called to love each other as Christ loves the Church (CCC 1601). This union, rooted in God’s original plan, is a mutual gift of self and a commitment to faithfulness, open to the gift of children. In marriage, the spouses become a visible sign of God’s love, receiving grace to strengthen and sanctify their bond. Marriage is not only a personal commitment but also a vocation to reflect Christ’s love and to build a family grounded in faith and service to God and others.
